2008 Swiss International Girls Hockey Tour


Zurich, Switzerland & Lake Como, Italy
August 9-18, 2008

The 2008 USJDP Girls Selects will be taking a U19 Selects Team to Switzerland and northern Italy to participate in friendly games and international tournaments. The tour will provide the players the opportunity to compete against, and train with, the top professional women's teams from across Switzerland and Italy. Each team will participate in 2-3 days of training and 5-6 full length games around Switzerland and northern Italy. Teams we will be competing against will be from the Swiss National Team, EV Zug, HC Thurgau, ZSC Lions, HC Rapperswil, the 2007 Swiss National Champions from HC Lugano and more.

Zurich, Switzerland & Lake Como, Italy.

GAME FORMATS :
The team will play 5-6 full length games minimum during the trip. Each game will be 3, 20-minute stop time periods in length, with a zamboni break between each period. All games include a 15-minute warm-up and will be played on olympic size ice sheets.

Additionally, European style, 2 day weekend tournaments may also be added. These tournaments offer 3-4 games over a 2-day period, but oftentimes the games are only 2, 20-minute stop time periods with 1 zamboni break. In these cases, we will add a minimum of 2-3 OTHER, full length games.


ACCOMMODATIONS:
In Lake Como, parents & siblings will be staying in the Hotel Regina Olga while the players are staying in hotel closer to the rink. Accommodations for Zurich will be announced shortly.

SIGHTSEEING:
Each team will have scheduled sightseeing tours on days off. On Sunday, August 5, the team will take a boat tour of the Ligurian Coast. The boat will depart from Rapallo and travel to the legendary port city of Portofino with short stops at San Fruttuoso and Camogli for swimming, shopping, and sightseeing.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Each interested player must email a complete player report to Mike Gempeler. Included in this email must be current year player team and stats, player size, position, shot direction, family contact info, coach name & contact number. Upon receipt of completed player report, the USJDP will contact each coach for an in-depth player recommendation and evaluation. After speaking with each coach, USJDP staff will make a determination about each player and notify you about our decision. Please allow 2-3 weeks for an answer.

* PLAYERS: This ALL-INCLUSIVE package includes transportation to and from airport, all pre-tournament practices and tournament games, all in-country transportation, accommodations, breakfast and 3-course dinner daily, tournament entry, stated off day tours, transfer fees, and USJDP Selects custom team jersey, socks, bag, hat and hoodie. Players and parents traveling with the team are responsible for their own flights and must meet the Team Bus at the Zurich International Airport by 9:00 am on Tuesday, Aug 10, 2008. Please schedule a return flight anytime after 12 noon on Monday, August 18, 2008.
