Brett Petersen has been the Head Men's Hockey Coach at Gustavus Adolphus College since the fall of 2000. He was named MIAC Coach of the Year in 2001-02 for helping the Gusties make the jump from ninth place in 2001, to second place in 2002.

A Roseville, MN native, Petersen began his coaching career with the St. Paul Vulcans of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 1992. After 3 successful seasons with the Vulcans, he was named assistant coach at St. Cloud State University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) in the spring of 1994.

Petersen received his Master of Science Degree in Athletic Administration in 2000 from St. Cloud State University. He also received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Denver in 1992. Petersen was a four-year letter winner in hockey while attending the University of Denver, WCHA from 1988-92 and was named to the WCHA All-Academic team three times.

Petersen had the opportunity to represent USA Hockey on several different occasions during his playing career including the U.S. Olympic Festival in Oklahoma City in 1990 and the World University Games in Sapporo, Japan in 1991.  He was drafted by the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL), but he did not play professional hockey.

Along with his coaching duties at Gustavus, Petersen is responsibilities include managing Lund Arena, the College’s multi-purpose facility that houses the ice sheet from October – March, for team practices and games, and July, for the Gustavus Hockey and Leadership Camp.

Brett lives in St. Peter with his wife Linda and their daughters Katherine (5) and Natalie (3).
