RMHS Hockey
On Ice Training

ON-ICE TRAINING - 3 HOURS PER DAY, GUARANTEED:

To provide the kind of skill development RMHS is known for over the course of a week, we believe it is imperative that each player in training on-ice for 3 hours each day, in two separate on-ice sessions. We believe this schedule will provide the necessary rest and recovery periods all young athletes need to properly recover between sessions. This ultimately allows for better recuperative power, increased muscle development, and most importantly better muscle memory. Additionally, this recovery period allows each player to be refreshed for the next on-ice session maximizing the amount of pure skill development over the course of the week.

When it comes to teaching, RMHS bases its coaching and training on clear , concise communication based on each individuals capacity for learning. To properly educate a player on these skills, we strive to understand how that person learns, whether by hearing, seeing, or feeling (touch). Since all of our staff are trained educators, we value this principle and utilize these three basic concepts as the foundation for our teachings.

For example, we first describe and diagram each drill in detail on a coaching board or on the ice for all players to see and hear. Next, our staff demonstrates the drill for each player to see, and finally each player performs the drill multiple times to correctly feel the response we are trying to elicit. In addition, each student is positively reinforced to ensure proper execution and development. Repetition of correctly executed movements is how one retains the correct muscle memory inherent in any properly developed athletic move.

Each camp includes 3 hours of on-ice instruction per day in a 5-day camp. Incorporated in each session are many European influences, small zone games, creativity, technique, skill, and system development exercises (please see our Camp Focuses for a specific camp syllabus).

We guarantee each student will come away from an RMHS camp a better player.
